Useful Information

Explore the world of underfloor heating. A truly warm home starts from the ground up. We don’t always consider the floor when we’re looking at home heating, but underfloor heating provides the foundation for a warm, healthy home.

The shift to clean energy is driving more people to seek out homes that are highly insulated and require less energy. Not only does electric underfloor heating make ecological sense, it makes economical sense too.

What is the standard that governs the design of heating on the ground?

UNI EN 1264 (four parts).

Why do we use insulation boards?

Insulation boards support the coils and because they are an excellent thermal insulator; thus, they reduce the thermal inertia of the system.

What is the thermal inertia of the system?

The thermal inertia of the system is somehow "speed" at which the system tracks changes in ambient temperature. Insulation boards can reduce the thermal inertia and, consequently accelerate the speed of installation.

What are the advantages and the PEXAL MIXAL tubes in heating the ground?

Tubes and PEXAL MIXAL with an aluminum core can facilitate coil installation. Once folded, the tube maintains its form unlike plastic pipes made of PEX or PERT. Tubes and PEXAL MIXAL ensure absolute waterproof (100%) to gases, particularly oxygen. In addition, the core increases the heat exchange coefficient of the tube relative to the plastic tubes.

Can floor heating be installed in an industrial warehouse or a building with high ceilings?

Installing underfloor heating is ideal in rooms with high ceilings because energy is produced at ground level and the temperature distribution provides a significant energy saving.

Is it true that the underfloor heating has circulation problems?

This problem is related to a historical legacy misconceptions which was few decades ago. Today, the design and installation must meet the requirements of the standards "UNI EN 1264" which states that the maximum surface temperature of the floor must not exceed 29 ° C in rooms like bedrooms or living room, whereas; It can reach 33 ° C in the bathroom. These temperatures are perfectly compatible with the human body temperature and creates no circulation problems nowadays.

Is there a standard for the production of insulating panels?

Yes, the reference for Insulating polystyrene panels (EPS) is UNI EN ISO 13163 that establishes the levels of resistance to compression, flexural strength, dimensional stability, thermal conductivity.

Is it okay to reference density to compare insulation boards?

No, the fundamental parameter for a correct comparison of insulated panels is the compressive strength measured in kPa (kilo Pascal). It identifies the ability of the panel to withstand the loads acting on the floor. This parameter is very important in achieving the industrial floor heating installations.

How Valsir multilayer tubes are realized?

Valsir Multilayer pipes are are composed of five layers of material, the inner and outer layers are made of PEX (cross linked polyethylene), the intermediate layer is welded aluminum head to head and two adhesive layers between these materials.

What are the main characteristics of multilayer pipes Valsir?

The main characteristics of Valsir multilayer tubes (PEX) are: non toxic, lightweight, no inlays, low loss, the absence of effects corrosive, and other grades of metal pipes as gas impermeability, low thermal expansion, dimensional stability, ductility.

What are the diameters used in underfloor heating?

In civil facilities, multilayer tube MIXAL 16x2 is used in industrial facilities, Mixal 20x2 in restoration,  PEXAL 14x2 in snow melting installations and high power PEXAL 26x3.

What is anti-neige/anti-verglas installation?

Anti-neige/anti-verglas facility consists of a coil located below the road surface, parking, a helipad, a viaduct, covered hot water increases the temperature of the coating and melts ice and snow.

In what order are the energy savings compared to conventional heating systems?

The particular characteristics of heating the ground saves 20-25% of fuel.

These savings are due to several factors: temperature distribution, low temperature of the fluid carrier, vast area heating, insulating panels, etc..

What type of boiler can be used?

Any type of boiler can be used even traditional condensation boilers.

Can I install a thermostat in each room?

Each room can have a seperate thermostat.

What is the tickness required in order to install the floor heating system?

The minimum tickness required for the floor heating installation is about 6.5 cm. this tickness is reached with the system that was composed for restoration with an insulating panel of 1 cm and tube MIXAL 16x2.

Are there limits on the thickness of the concrete placed on top of the coils?

Yes, the standard is set to a minimum limit of 3 cm. However, in private residences the concrete thickness is about 4.5 cm.

Is underfloor heating a noisy phenomena?

After the fluids flow in the pipes, you hear nothing anymore. While heating the floor fluids speed is very low (up to 0.5 m / s); thus, the typical sound of pipes while fluids flow at a high speed is not generated.

Does underfloor heating generate dust?

Floor heating does not generate dust as it does not create convective motions; therefore dust sticks on the ground.

Can I use wood flooring?

You can use any type of flooring surfaces (tiles, timber and capeted flooring); however. It is important to communicate with your designer for the finishing as each type of flooring has a different type of execution and a different coefficient of thermal characteristic that must be considered during the design phase.

Does the underfloor heating system creates respiratory irritation?

Absolutely not. Ground temperatures are so low (27-29 ° C) and the humidity conditions do not change For this type of installation, it is not necessary to use humidifiers bins which are adopted in the radiator systems.

What is the temperature of the water flowing in the coils?

The temperature of the water depends on several factors such as the type of flooring, the required room temperature, external weather conditions, etc..

Generally, the discharge temperature is 35 ° C to 45 ° C.
